Football Friday

Football Factors...and MORE!

A Fifth grade activity for ya:

On Super Bowl Friday I was looking for some great Math activities to do with my 5th graders.  Not being a huge Football fan myself I was struggling, until I grabbed my brothers Giants jersey to wear for the day.   I printed out a current roster for the Giants and had each table pick a player, without knowing why they were picking him.  After each students picked a player I informed them that we would be doing some jersey math.

Besides designing the jersey they were asked to find the factors of the jersey number, seven multiples, and identify if the number was prime or square.
I cut out the letters using my Cricut and made mini teacher jerseys for the display.

It was a quick fun way to kick off the day and even for the kiddos in my class that weren't football fans could get behind designing a jersey.

Enjoy!

Shout out to Erica

For President's Day I had my class create George Washington and Abraham Lincoln craft/ writing activity.  The original idea came from Erica at http://www.ericabohrer.blogspot.com/.

Before beginning the art project we brainstormed all the facts we knew about each president and listed them on a chart.  Then we viewed  a video on the website United Streaming called Holiday Facts about President's Day.  After viewing the video we listed facts we learned from the video.  The students then got started with the art portion of the project. This is a two sided craft with George Washington on one side with quarters as the buttons on the jacket. Turn the paper over and turn upside down to create Abraham Lincoln, with pennies for the eyes.  The students then chose thier favorite facts about each president and wrote them on lined paper.  The lined paper is in between the hat and jacket.  The students loved this project! It was not only fun but educational. Keep in mind this project took two days to complete.

Hello Bloggers!

Allow us to introduce ourselves....

My name is Damien and I have been a 5th grade teacher for 6 years.  I believe that learning should be fun and try to incorporate the joy of learning into my classroom everyday.  I am passionate, loud, loving, emotional, stubborn, creative, opinionated, dedicated, and kind.  My educational philosophy is built on a quote by Walt Disney "Laughter is no enemy to learning".

Hello, I am Kelly and I have been a 1st grade teacher for 11 years. I am a proud mother of 2 ( a high school daughter and a middle school son) and a 9 year old black lab named Shadow.    In my classroom I give my students choice, both creatively and academically.  I feel that first grade should be challenging, but tons of FUN!

Kelly and I met six years ago when Kelly borrowed my scissors and didn't return them.  From that point on we have been collaborating and working together even though we teach on opposite ends of the elementary school spectrum. We run ideas by each other, support our creative risks, share information, and work together.  For the last six years our classes have been paired together in a Reading Buddy program that we brought to our school and that has brought so much to our students and ourselves.

We LOVE what we do and are always trying to push ourselves one step further. Thanks for joining as as we take our collaboration to the next level by sharing our world with you.
